Acupuncture
According to TCM(Traditional Chinese Medicine) theory, the human body consists of invisible channels known as meridians. Meridians are pathways where life energy or known as “Qi” flows throughout the human body. In general, under normal circumstances, there will be abundant Qi flowing through these meridians however if these meridians become blocked by pathogenic factors or Qi becomes stagnated, will result in pain or illnesses.
Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into the body at specific acupuncture points. Specific acupuncture points are selected by the practitioner depending on the particular condition of the patient. By inserting these needles to these acupuncture points, helps release the stagnation within the affected meridian and re-establishes the free flow of Qi. These acupuncture points when activated act as conduits to stimulate and regulate all body activity affecting the muscles, nerves, bones, hormonal, digestive and all other internal functions, thus able to alleviate the pain or symptoms.
Acupuncture is an ancient form of treatment but like all other treatments and developments, acupuncture has come a long way since then. Unlike acupuncture, which has been practiced in most Asian countries for centuries, it has recently become increasingly popular in many Western countries for treating pain syndromes, digestive disorders, gynecology conditions, emotional disturbances and much more.
Chinese Herbal Medicine
Chinese Herbal medicine, along with acupuncture, is an important part of traditional Chinese medicine, which has been successfully used for centuries to treat people and prevent disease. Chinese herbal medicine takes a holistic approach to understand normal function and disease processes and focuses as much on the prevention of illness as on the treatment. Each chinese herbal formula typically consists of 2 to 20 different herbs, thus every single formula has its own functions and actions on the body.
At our practice, our experienced practitioner will carefully select herbal formula according to your needs and herbal formulas can be provided in pill form or as granules that are dissolved in water. As your condition changes and improves with our treatment, the Chinese herbal treatment is also adjusted until the desired health outcome is achieved.
We strongly support the ethical use of medicinal herbs.
If you have any concerns, don’t hesitate to let us know during your treatment.

Cupping Therapy
Cupping is an ancient form of therapy in which special cups are placed on the skin surface by using negative pressure. The negative pressure can be created by using a flame-induce suction or by using a dedicated cupping pump. It aims to remove any stagnation in the body and opens up the meridians thereby allowing Qi to flow freely.
Cupping therapy, which promotes blood circulation, relieves pain, and relaxes muscles and tendons, is often used in combination with acupuncture, especially in pain management.
At Kim's Acupuncture & Myotherapy, glass cups and disposable plastic cups are used for hygienic cupping treatment.
Please note: Red or purple congested marks may appear on the surface of the skin for several days after cupping treatment. There may be individual differences in the disappearance of the cupping marks, and in most cases it will disappear in about a week, but it may take longer than that.
Moxibustion (Moxa)
Moxibustion is a form of traditional warming therapy, which consists of burning dried mugwort leaves on a certain area of skin or near the body. Moxibustion has the effect of warming the meridians and expelling cold from the body, so it is mainly used for pain treatments, cold syndrome caused by qi and blood circulation problems, and gynecological diseases.
Please note: During the moxibustion treatment, there may be a smell of burning mugwort or a little smoke. At Kim's Acupuncture & Myotherapy, smokeless moxibustion is used during moxibustion treatment and an air purifier is operated.

Myotherapy
Myotherapy is a form of soft tissue treatment that is based on remedial massage as well as Western medical, evidence based assessment, treatment and rehabilitation principles. It is used to treat or prevent soft tissue pain and restricted joint movement caused by muscle or myofascia dysfunction. Basically, myotherapy is focused on relieving musculoskeletal pain by focusing on and treating the soft tissue of the body (muscle, fascia, tendons, ligaments). Treatment methods include sports and remedial massage, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, spinal and peripheral joint mobilisations, dry needling, sports/ postural taping and exercise therapy. Since the basic technique of myotherapy is remedial massage, it is also known as advanced remedial therapy.
At Kim's Acupuncture & Myotherapy, our myotherapists work with holistic, long term goals in mind and provide evidence-based assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for a wide range of musculoskeletal pain and associated conditions
Remedial Massage
Remedial massage is a treatment modality that manipulates the soft tissues of the body including movement for a specific therapeutic effect, rather than a general massage. This may be an acute injury that has just occurred, a long lasting chronic problem that is always there or also problems that may come up from time to time like headaches or muscle aches.
Remedial massage utilises techniques such as deep tissue massage, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, active release techniques (ART), and PNF stretching which are very effective in treating joint sprains, muscle strains or pulls, tight muscles, limited movements, various pain syndromes and many more.
At Kim's Acupuncture & Myotherapy, Our remedial therapist will assess your condition to understand the causes of problems, tailor a treatment plan to suit, and treat you according to the plan. Remedial massage may cause discomfort or pain for a short period of time due to deep or soft tissue stimulation, but the results can be worthwhile.
